Person covering their face with many hands, overwhelming emotions, Borderline Personality Disorder therapy in Ontario
What BPD can feel like

Borderline Personality Disorder is not a character flaw. It often grows out of a sensitive nervous system meeting an environment that did not feel safe or validating. The result is emotions that feel enormous, fast and hard to come down from.

  • Intense emotions that shift quickly
  • A deep fear of abandonment or rejection
  • Relationships that swing between closeness and conflict
  • An unstable or shifting sense of who you are
  • Impulsive behaviour when emotions run high
  • Chronic feelings of emptiness
  • Self harm or thoughts of suicide
Who I support
  • Adults and teens with a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), also called Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD)
  • People who relate to BPD traits without a formal diagnosis
  • Emotional dysregulation linked to trauma, ADHD or attachment wounds
  • Partners and families who want to understand and support someone they love

As a Registered Psychotherapist, I do not provide diagnosis, and you do not need one to start therapy.

How we work on BPD

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) was created for people living with BPD, and it is at the heart of this work. DBT balances acceptance (you are doing the best you can) with change (and you can learn new ways to cope).

  • DBT skills for mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation and relationships
  • Attachment based work to understand fears of abandonment
  • EMDR and somatic therapy for the trauma that often sits underneath
  • Safety planning for the hardest moments
What to expect

Recovery from BPD is very possible, and many people find their symptoms ease a great deal with the right support. Your first step is a free 15 minute phone consult. Sessions are virtual across Ontario, with in person sessions at my Ajax office.

If you are thinking about suicide or are not safe right now, please call or text 988, or go to your nearest emergency department.
