Mindful Comeback Therapy offers therapy in English, Hindi and Punjabi with Rubina Gogna, a South Asian Registered Psychotherapist. Sessions are virtual anywhere in Ontario, or in person at our Ajax office. You can bring the pressures of brown culture and immigrant families into the room without having to explain the basics first.
You don’t have to translate your life
Some things lose their meaning in translation. Izzat, log kya kahenge, the weight of being the first to make it, the guilt of wanting something different from what your parents sacrificed for. With a therapist who already understands the context, sessions start where you actually are. You can switch between English, Hindi and Punjabi whenever a word fits better.
What we often work on
- Family expectations, guilt and the pressure to succeed
- Career and education pressure, burnout and perfectionism
- Marriage, in law dynamics and relationship struggles
- Living between two cultures and figuring out who you are
- Shame and stigma around mental health and asking for help
- Intergenerational trauma and patterns that started long before you
- Anxiety, depression, ADHD and self esteem, with culture in the picture
- Parenting across generations and cultures
How I work
Science first, feeling second. We start by understanding the patterns keeping you stuck and where they came from. Then we use the approach that fits you: EMDR and somatic work for experiences your body still holds, inner child and psychodynamic work for patterns that started early, and ACT, DBT and CBT for practical skills you can use between sessions. I work with individuals, couples and teens.
