Trauma and PTSD Therapy

Woman with eyes closed looking haunted, trauma and PTSD therapy in Ontario
What trauma can feel like

Trauma is not only about what happened. It is about what your mind and body had to do to survive it, and how they are still reacting today. Trauma can come from one overwhelming event, or from many smaller experiences over time, especially in childhood.

  • Flashbacks, nightmares or intrusive memories
  • Feeling on edge, jumpy or always scanning for danger
  • Shutting down, feeling numb or disconnected from your body
  • Avoiding people, places or reminders
  • Strong reactions that feel bigger than the moment
  • Trouble trusting others or feeling safe in relationships
What I support
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD) and childhood trauma
  • Relational trauma, including emotional neglect
  • Trauma from accidents, medical events or sudden loss
  • Racial, cultural and intergenerational trauma
  • Trauma linked to anxiety, depression, ADHD or addiction

You do not need a diagnosis to start therapy, and you do not have to tell your whole story to start healing.

How we work on trauma

Talking about trauma is not always enough, and sometimes it can leave you feeling worse. I work at the level of your nervous system, so your body can learn that the danger is over.

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to process painful memories so they lose their charge
  • Somatic Experiencing to release stored stress and help your body feel safe
  • Inner child and attachment work for early experiences that shaped how you see yourself
  • DBT skills for grounding when emotions or memories feel overwhelming
What to expect

We always start with safety and stability. You set the pace, and we only go into memories when you feel ready.

Your first step is a free 15 minute phone consult. Sessions are virtual across Ontario, with in person sessions at my Ajax office.
